San Antonio is Believing ~ Wednesday, March 11

At this point in the campaign, you know me. I was born here. I've built my life and my work here. I've stood up for and with many of you and helped San Antonio move forward to brace for and build on all that lies ahead. I'm moments away from becoming a father for the first time and introducing my child to the city I love.

San Antonio is more than my home, it's my purpose. Come May 9th, I'm asking you to join me and make it yours.

In the coming weeks, I'll be blogging to you every Wednesday. In addition, I'll be posting short videos that give me a chance to talk directly to you on a number of different topics. To keep you informed as to what I'm doing, how I'm feeling and what I'm thinking... about our future as a city, our neighborhoods as a united community and our lives as we search to find meaning in everything that happens around us. Our economy. Our children. Our prosperity.

One thing that continues to be important for our economy is supporting the arts in San Antonio. Art and industry, hand-in-hand, are what will keep our city vibrant and alive. An active arts community helps to bring people, investment and jobs to San Antonio. We must continue to cultivate a city of thinkers and creators, one that appeals to visitors, companies and residents. I'm personally asking our city's visual artists and graphic designers to come forward and show us what you've got.

Like the now-iconic red, white and blue image created by graphic artist Shepard Fairey of Obama during the 2008 Presidential campaign, I'm turning to you, San Antonio's talented creative community to design a poster or image that highlights my campaign and informs a vision of the singular future we all believe belongs to our city. Whether you are an aspiring painter creating for no one in particular, or a graphic artist who imagines designs that mirror life, pick up your pen, your paint brush or your mouse and show me what you think of my campaign. Art is believing we can do more. Believing we can be more. Art is believing in San Antonio. Show me how you envision our future... our time.

My hope is that this call for entries will spotlight the importance of our creative community to San Antonio's economy and give artists a chance to express themselves in this campaign. Entries should be sent via e-mail to poster@castroformayor.com in either a high resolution jpeg or PDF format sized to 11x17 and must be received by March 27. Entries will be posted on www.castroformayor.com. A few entries will be selected, printed and distributed across the city leading up to the May 9th election.

I hope ya'll are as excited as I am about building a strong momentum to take San Antonio to the next level. We only have one chance to do it right. One chance to get through this hard economic era and show the country what we're made of. One chance to create the world as we see it, to build a better city and a better life. Join me.
